“Disaster Monitoring and Management Systems Cooperation Protocol” was signed between Istanbul Technical University Disaster Management Institute and Bursa Nilüfer Municipality for precautions to be taken before and after earthquakes and minimization of risks.
A cooperation protocol was signed between Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) to contribute to Turkey's “National Space Program” goal. With the protocol, within ITU Space Systems Design and Test Laboratory, “R&D Project of Multifunction Solar Panel in Nano, Micro, Cube Satellites” will be implemented with the coordination of İnovaTİM. With the project, multifunctional, domestic solar panels will be developed for Nano and Micro Satellites, which are quite widespread in the world and cost very low.
İTÜ Chemical-Metallurgical Engineering Faculty, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department faculty member Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Kızıl and İTÜ Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design, Department of Textile Engineering faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meltem Yanılmaz will develop materials for next generation lithium-ion batteries.
This week İTÜ Science and Technology Talks hosted İTÜ Maritime Faculty Faculty Member and TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM) Polar Research Institute Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Özsoy. In the talk held online on İTÜ’s social media accounts under the title Our Scientific Adventure at the Poles, Dr. Özsoy gave important messages about scientific studies in Antarctica and climate change.
The CubeSat ASELSAT 3U developed with the collaboration of Istanbul Technical University and ASELSAN was launched. Since 2005, 6 satellites developed by İTÜ Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics took their place in orbit.
The outcomes of the research study performed by Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tolga Görüm and his Ph.D. student Seçkin Fidan to determine the fatal landslide events in Turkey were shared with the public. According to this study, a total of 1343 persons lost their lives in 389 fatal landslide events that occurred in the last 90 years in Turkey.
Results of BİDEB 2247-A National Leader Researchers Program 2020 applications have been announced. Projects of our 4 faculty members were granted support.

The results of the 3rd Call of ERA.Net RUS PLUS Program that aims broad-based and effective collaboration between Russia and 11 European Union member and associated countries including Turkey in scientific and technological research fields were announced. İTÜ’s project accepted to the program in the field of Nanotechnology was granted support. The project in which seven universities from five countries will work together will be supervised by İTÜ Faculty of Mechanical Engineering faculty member and İTÜ MEMS Research Center Director Prof. Dr. Levent Trabzon.
Last week İTÜ Talks hosted two important scientists from our university under the title “Tomorrow’s Water and Drought”. In the program broadcast live from İTÜ’s social media channels, our faculty members Prof. Dr. Mikdat Kadıoğlu and Prof. Dr. Lütfi Akça commented on Turkey’s scarcity of water, waste of water, fullness ratios of dams and the drought problem awaiting Turkey.
“TÜBA Awards” consisting of Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) International Academy Awards, TÜBA-GEBİP (Outstanding Young Scientist) and TÜBA-TESEP (Authored Scientific Book) organized under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey have been announced.
Istanbul Technical University Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tolga Görüm was awarded within the framework of “Introducing Talents of Discipline to Universities” (ITDU–111) program initiated by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China. The studies to be conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tolga Görüm in collaboration with Chengdu University of Technology will be supported for five years.

İTÜ’s 39 academicians ranked among the top 2% of the world according to the article titled “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators” published in PLOS Biology by Dr. John PA Ioannidis, K. W. Boyack, and J. Baas from Stanford University. İTÜ became the Turkish university with the highest number of academicians who entered the list of best scientists of the world.

Istanbul Technical University was included with 57 projects in STAR Scholarships run by TÜBİTAK Directorate of Science Fellowships and Grant Programmes (BİDEB).
“Research and Candidate Research Universities” determined as part of the “Specialization and Mission Differentiation Project” introduced to the higher education system by the “New CoHE” was announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Opening Ceremony of the 2017-2018 Academic Year held at the Presidential Complex on September 26, 2017.
Our Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Evren Erşahin was granted the 2020 “TÜBİTAK Encouragement Award”.
